Can you use program besides iTunes to manage iPhone in Windows Vista 64

The driver problem I have with Vista 64 and my new Dell is intractable. The service is running, the phone is recognized, but Windows insists that the digital still camera driver is the proper driver and despite disabling everything I can find to disable in terms of Vista-Nanny, I can't implement any of the suggested fixes.

I give up. So is there another program besides iTunes that will manage my iPhone contacts, calendar and media?

Tim,

I can't vouch for this personally, but I have seen items in other forums about the invalid response message. One answer that was supposed to work was to find the lockdown folder and delete it. Since you have not had a valid sync with iTunes, I do not think anything will be harmed. I found the folder on my computer at c:\users\<username>\appdata\roaming\apple computer. Delete the folder, start itunes, and see if it will recognize the iPhone.

Unfortunately, this is starting to sound like the stuff of urban legends. I have been dealing with computers long enough to know that careless programmers can create problems that will be intractable for even some pretty sophisticated users. iTunes 64 and my particular configuration of Vista Premium Home Edition 64 is obviously one of those kind of problems. Vista as a whole may be for all I know. I haven't had Vista very long, but I have already learned that it just doesn't like other programs.

So rather than waste time trying to fix a problem I shouldn't even having be addressing, it is easier to give up on iTunes and iPhone with this computer.

The correct answer is that some iPhone users are just never going to get their product to work with Vista 64, no matter how many forum fixes they try. Disgusting.

Here is how I resolved my problem.

I took my computer back to Best Buy and said it wouldn't work with iPhones, nor would it work with the Canon printer that came bundled with it.

I got a brand new computer. Exact same model. This time everything installed and worked without problem. I suspect there was something messed up with the USBs, but who know?

So I guess the moral is, try your iPhone out as quickly as possible and if you absolutely cannot get it to work, return it and try again. (They wanted to charge me $39 to install iTunes on-site, but I managed to talk them out of such a ridiculous proposition.)
