Are you trying to use the drum set as a midi controller or record the drum module sounds?

You can't do that since GB doesn't send any midi signals back to your kit.

Software will, of course, only trigger GB's drum sounds. For Real instrument you'd have to connect to the line-in (or an interface) from the L/R out of the drum unit.

If you are just using the TD-20's midi ouput, then you are not going to get any sounds unless you assign first the midi channel to use on the software instrument that corresponds to the midi channel selected on the TD-20 module, but to also have each pad on the drum set corresponds with the right notes to be triggered in the drum software. Sometimes the drums are sending notes in the wrong octave which can cause there to be no sounds being triggered. I use Logic which makes this task fairly easy so I imagine Garageband would have it be easy enough as well. Hope that helps.
