Safari fails to scroll to bookmark anchor

I try the link you gave us, and I have no trouble at all that this is not functioning in my browser. I clicked at the left side any Page number, and the BROWN FOX JUMPS TO THE RIGHT NUMBER.

I'm using OSX 10.2.8 and Safari 1.0.3 (v85.8.1.) maybe this is the difference ?? I don't know ??

I have seen this kind of behavior on many commerical sites too. There will be an anchor in the page somewhere, and a link to it in the same page, and clicking the link does not take you to the anchor. It invariably works OK with other browsers.

I have a page I designed using a Mac & it works when I look at the page using Explorer on the Mac & Explorer on a PC, but does not 'jump' to the right parts of my page when viewed in Safari.

Is this something that will be fixed in future versions, or should I put a note explaing that the internal page links don't work in Safari.

I'm having a similiar issue while searching ebay. If i use my browser button to go back after viewing an item, it takes me back to the top of the page instead of scrolling to the last click. Very frustrating. It only happened after i updated to 10.3.9 and or the security updates. I'm only going to use my PC to view ebay items now, because it is very hard to find exactly what i clicked on repeatedly. - If anyone has an answer, please reply - Paulman

I'm seeing this problem on some pages, but not on others. (with Safari 1.2.4 (v125.12)) One page where the internal page anchors work for me is http://www.leslie-turek.com/trip1.html. But they're not working on a new index page I've created for a plant images CD. As far as I can see, the html I'm using is identical in the two places. I'm very mystified.

I think I've figured out where this works and where this fails. It fails if you have no text within the "name" tag and the first thing following the name tag is another link.

For example, this fails:

Oh foo. I meant to put the raw html in my message, but of course it's getting interpreted and not displayed. The editor help doesn't say how to get around this.

And now that I look at the original poster's example, it seems my surmise is not quite correct, as he did not have a link immediately following the name tag, so by my reckoning, his code should have worked. He did have an empty name tag, though, so maybe it would still work to put some text inside the name tag.

It also fails in Safari 1.3.

This has started to happen here, but only since upgrading to 10.3.9 and Safari 1.3.

I had a page design that worked fine with anchors before the upgrade. But now it seems to prefer to return to the last place I scrolled to on the page rather than the anchor in the same-page link or in the bookmark.

I am also having this same problem. It started immediately after the update from 10.3.8 to 10.3.9. It only happens on some named anchors, others work fine. I've reported the problem to Apple using the mechanism in Safari, never heard anything back.

I'm a frequent visitor to a web forum system used by Comcast that makes extensive use of named anchors to jump to a post in a long discussion thread, and this problem is making Safari a pain to use there.

Anyone have any suggestions for a work around? Is this possibly something wrong with my setup? My PowerBook is brand new, only several weeks old with little in the way of installed software past OS X, just ircle and

I am having the same problem with 10.3.9 and Safari 1.3 and DIV overflow=true tags. (see below)

Your bookmark test also does not work with Mac IE5.2.3

annoyance level is now MASSIVE

APPLE developers can you help? This is a serious issue with Safari, and because it's variable, it's hard to pin down a workaround.
