Safari fails to scroll to bookmark anchor

Safari doesn't scroll a text area properly in response to clicking on a bookmark link. Page that illustrates the problem:

I've reported this as a bug to Apple. Any workarounds, other than redesigning the page?

Hello Dana,

* First of all a warm welcome to the Apple discussions.

I try the link you gave us, and I have no trouble at all that this is not functioning in my browser. I clicked at the left side any Page number, and the BROWN FOX JUMPS TO THE RIGHT NUMBER.

* Discussions is a ongoing process.
Hope to see you around anytime you need us, or can offer help to others.

I found another Mac, running Safari 1.0.2 under 10.2.8. The scrolling does NOT work on that Safari.

Curious that it fails in 1.0.2, works in at least one 1.0.3, and fails again in 1.2.4.

Makes me think there is some other problem involved. But the Macs I've been testing on are widely scattered (they belong to various people I've asked to test this for me), so I doubt there's some systematic setting that they all have.

I'm having a similiar issue while searching ebay. If i use my browser button to go back after viewing an item, it takes me back to the top of the page instead of scrolling to the last click. Very frustrating. It only happened after i updated to 10.3.9 and or the security updates. I'm only going to use my PC to view ebay items now, because it is very hard to find exactly what i clicked on repeatedly. - If anyone has an answer, please reply - Paulman

Oh foo. I meant to put the raw html in my message, but of course it's getting interpreted and not displayed. The editor help doesn't say how to get around this.

And now that I look at the original poster's example, it seems my surmise is not quite correct, as he did not have a link immediately following the name tag, so by my reckoning, his code should have worked. He did have an empty name tag, though, so maybe it would still work to put some text inside the name tag.

I am also having this same problem. It started immediately after the update from 10.3.8 to 10.3.9. It only happens on some named anchors, others work fine. I've reported the problem to Apple using the mechanism in Safari, never heard anything back.

I'm a frequent visitor to a web forum system used by Comcast that makes extensive use of named anchors to jump to a post in a long discussion thread, and this problem is making Safari a pain to use there.

Anyone have any suggestions for a work around? Is this possibly something wrong with my setup? My PowerBook is brand new, only several weeks old with little in the way of installed software past OS X, just ircle and

Hi Dana,

I am having the same problem with 10.3.9 and Safari 1.3 and DIV overflow=true tags. (see below)

Your bookmark test also does not work with Mac IE5.2.3

http://www.vindicodownunder.com.au/test1.html (has broken anchors in Safari & IE)
http://www.vindicodownunder.com.au/test.html (has anchors that work)

tried putting text into the named nachor to no avail...

annoyance level is now MASSIVE
