Question

mkv ordered chapter woes

.mkv containers allow for ordered chapter, which are basically placeholders in a file which say that the player should show content from a different file (usually residing in the same directory as the first file) spliced somewhere into the regular playback. the question is this: is there any player that supports this on a mac?

15" MBP 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 3GB SDRAM 256MB VRAM x1600, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Some mkv have the video encoded with Real Video Codec (RV9 RV10). Perian+QT can't decode this, but VLC will play .mkv files just fine on OS X, as long as they don't use H.264!

It's a bit of a lottery until Matroska decide to support the Apple platform. I have found this:

which may help.

But there may be another workaround: 1. Get Info the mkv file
2. Change to extension to wmv. Save as wmv and that could work better.

Recently, a poster (ZachP14) suggested this:

"There's a program called Plex that runs .mkv files awesome on my 2.0 ghz macbook."

well, i have absolutely no problems with playing the video itself, i just cant get the linking to work properly. plex is absolutely gorgeous, but it doesn't play things properly either =[

unfortunately that site does not address the question of ordered chapters (multi-file chapters) and mac. cccp can play ordered chapters, but i'm not about to install windows just to watch some videos =\
but a decent overview of matroska anyway.

I am with you on that one. Ordered chapters are being used more and more often. I personally use MPlayer OSX Extended +http://mplayerosx.sttz.ch/+ the site's timeline shows a ticket +http://mplayerosx.sttz.ch/trac/ticket/158+ open for adding the support and Adrian picked (still undetermined milestone) it up so hopefully it is possible.
