10.5.7 and disappearing cross hair cursor (using command+shift+4)

I just upgraded to 10.5.7 and noticed that when using the command shift4 keystroke to do a screen grab, the cross-hair cursor disappears when moving the mouse around. If I slowly move the mouse across the screen, the cross-hair cursor flickers. This behavior happens on both my desktop and laptop.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Hmmm, ok, thanks.

I'm trying to think what might be causing this. I don't have any application enhancers installed. The only shared software I use on both machines that would have anything to do with the mouse would be SteerMouse (mouse driver). I uninstalled it then reapplied 10.5.7 but am still having the same issue.

I noticed that if I decrease the display resolution or increase the size of the mouse cursor (Universal Access -> Mouse), the cursor never disappears. This is the case on both machines.

Oh well, I'll keep searching. Cheers.

One thing I realized is that both of my Macs have ATI video cards (x1600 & x1900). 10.5.7 included an ATI driver update.

What does the x1600 & x1900 mean? It can’t be the resolution because it must be taller than it is wide.

This refers to a Mac Pro with a Radeon 4870 card. You haven’t included in your profile what computer you are using, but that may be why neither baltwo or I can not replicate it. I have the same iMac baltwo has.
Other than that, I got nothing 🙂

Me either if I can’t replicate it.

I have exactly the same thing happening on a 20" iMac from early 2006 (2Ghz Core Duo, model id iMac4,1). The graphics display in this model is an ATI Radeon X1600 with 128 MB.

If I slowly move the mouse after pressing command shift4, it flickers. When I move it fast its completely gone. Making the actual selection looks normal, except for the cross-hair which is still invisible or flickering.

As far as I know, I haven't installed anything that might influence the mouse behavior. No desktop enhancer or anything. I did try the same operation in an almost plain vanilla account, with barely anything running but the finder and the problem persists there.
