10.5.7 and disappearing cross hair cursor (using command+shift+4)

I just upgraded to 10.5.7 and noticed that when using the command shift4 keystroke to do a screen grab, the cross-hair cursor disappears when moving the mouse around. If I slowly move the mouse across the screen, the cross-hair cursor flickers. This behavior happens on both my desktop and laptop.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Mac OS X (10.5.6)

I have the exact same problem, but it also happens in the new safari 4 beta (latest update).

What happens when you run Safari 4? I see the cross-hair behavior regardless of which app I have running in the foreground.

I have a wacom intuos 3 tablet, maybe that's the problem, do any of you have tablets or similar?

No, I do not have a tablet attached to my Macs.

I don't have any other input device than a mouse connected to my system. The only non standard thing my iMac has is a USB creative X-fi external sound card. The problem manifests itself regardless of any app I have running. See my previous comment; the problem is there when no user application is running at all. I checked my open process list and nothing unusual was listed there either. I had no specific back ground processes or services open.

Yeah, I see that as well.

More or less the same here, when I just drag a file to the sidebar folder (using only the left mouse button, for a move), the green bubble disappears as soon as the mouse icon hits an edge of the dock. It almost always re-appears when I move the mouse away from the dock again, but sometimes it doesn't come back even when I don't hover over the dock.

With the command-drag (for a copy) there is a noticeable short flicker exactly when I hit the edge of the dock again, but then surprisingly it keeps being visible without any flicker when hovering over the dock. However, when I then move it away from the dock there is the same flicker again when the last pixel of the cursor leaves the dock, but this time it becomes invisible when NOT hovering the dock.

Puzzling...

I've found a new occurrence of the flickering cursor. When I have a remote X11 window on my Mac's desktop and the X11 cursor is animated, it flickers. I noticed this when starting up a remote instance of firefox (running on debian linux). When a page is loaded, the mouse changes shape into an animated cursor. The cursor flickered in the same way as when taking a screen shot.

Now I don't execute firefox a lot remotely (there is normally very little reason for it), but occasionally I do this because that remote instance of firefox still has a cookie for some login and I'm too lazy to lookup my password for a particular site. Due to the relative low frequency of me doing this, I can't really remember whether the cursor flickered before or not, but I think it's new and thus possibly related.

I don't know if the following observation is relevant or helpful but GoLive CS running on Windows XP under VMWare fusion shows the cursor icon to be contained in a black box rather than surrounded with transparency when the cursor sweeps over Toolbox.

Illustrator CS does not do the same.

On this machine with an NVidia card.

I can't claim to have observed it before but CS is a recent install (that really is CS as in CS1).
