Macbook Pro 2.1 & MAC OS X 10.5.7 update = no screen, I need the laptop!!

I´ve a presentation this afternoon which is only stored in my laptop, ok, maybe I should have saved it somewhere else, but it is too late for that!

I´ve updated the system to 10.5.7 and the screen is not working. The update installed correctly, and after that it rebooted the laptop but now, I have no screen at all!

I´ve tried to reset the PRAM, tried to boot in safe mode... nothing, I still cannot see anything.

And there is no way I can install a new system or format the disk If I am not able to see anything!

What can I do? BIG HELP!!!

MacBook Pro 2.1, Mac OS X (10.5.6), 4GB, 320GB....

I also have a MacBook Pro 2.6Ghz from Dec 07 and experience the same issue. After updating to 10.5.7 via Software Update the Mac rebootet and that was it. I get a black screen and some hard drive activity. When I boot from the original installation DVDs the screen also stays black. No PRAM reset or boot option did help. Contacting Apple support they have asked me to send the laptop in.

On my MacBook from Dec 08 things work all fine (10.5.7 and all the Safari updates).

On my iMac from Jan 09 the graphics are off in the sense, that the icons are only shown partially.

Obviously, Apple did a bad job on pre-testing this update. I have never ever had problems with Apple software updates before.

I also have the same issue and f'in furious!

The machine is working fine as if I go in to it via screen share I can use it all just fine - But if I have a look at the preferences, there are no displays (even if external plugged in), not even the built in one. Basically it looks like the update has totally screwed the graphics drivers or setup. And only manifests after opening after sleep mode.

What I did do was re-install the combo update via screen share and after two reboots it was back to normal and I breathed easy.

However, just went to open it again and the issue has returned.

I seem to remember a very similar issue hitting one of the Tiger updates.

I hope Apple are really on top of this as I am really quite screwed without this machine. I'll drop an official ticket after I get back later.

We had this problem on an brand new MacBook and an 18 month old MacBook Pro.

Nothing worked - so we re-installed 10.5 from the system-dvd via T-Mode and firewire from a second Mac. Needed some hours, but the monitors on the older book came back to live. Only some items in the menue bars are double now 😟 ... but this seems to be an minor problem.

The new book was already send back to the dealer on friday - let's see, how clever they will be.

Hi got the same issue, after installing the update the Mac startet twice, after that the screen is black. Tried many things, Starting vom original CD deleting PRAM, Firmware Restoration nothing helped. This is now the second issue (first Boot Loops on a XServe after installing 10.5.7) and now this!
Please APPLE don't use your customers as Beta Tester. In the past never had this kind of issues for more than 10 Years.
AND Please Fix this Problem, cause this whole stuff costs a lot of time nerves and money, that in the end the customers has to pay and not APPLE!
