There seem to be a slew of 10.5.7 defects related to Time Machine.

FWIW, I have had no problems with Time Machine backups with either local or shared drives after updating my Macs to 10.5.7.

But once I changed the HOST over to 10.5.7 -- none of the remote Macs can mount the Host's shared drive.

This doesn't sound like a TM problem unless only TM can't access the shared drive. What happens if you try to connect to that drive from a remote Mac using its Finder?

Time Machine has solved the problem today. After 2 days of failed attempts, today it has decided to do something and finish the backup correctly. The question is how can I be sure that all my data is correctly backed up?

A successful completion is a successful completion.

You can review your log messages via the +Time Machine Buddy+ widget available from: http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/timemachinebuddy.html.

Or you can see what was actually backed-up via the TimeTracker app, from www.charlessoft.com.
It shows most of the files saved by TM for each backup (excluding some hidden/system files, etc.).

There's also the BackupLoupe application, at: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10914383
