10.5.7 Macbook sleeps once, freezes second time

After installing 10.5.7 from combo update, I can now only sleep my mac once. Second time it does not sleep, instead it freezes.
It does this consistently.

I found another user with the same issue:
+Peter Hull+
+After applying the 10.5.7 Combo update, my MacBook freezes consistently the second time I put it to sleep. In other words, sleep works once, but the second time I close the lid or choose "Sleep" from the menu, it freezes before it has a chance to sleep (i.e., the screen backlight stays on, the sleep light doesn't start "snoring", etc+

Anybody got any solution?

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.5.2)

Thank you Kai, it worked for me like a charm.

The reason was that I'm using a T-Mobile 3G Stick sometimes, and it automatically creates a new Location for itself called "web 'n walk Manager", in which there are only 3G modem connections available. I noticed it earlier, and to make my everyday work easier, I added Airport too (for having Airport connections even if I forget to change it back manually to the original - "Automatic"). That's the cause, I didn't noticed when last time I plugged in the T-Mobile stick, it automatically changed the location to web 'n walk, and it remained there, with 3G modem and Airport only.

Actually I had this problem right after installing 10.5.7, and somehow it healed itself for a while (probably I changed back the location manually once), and then it came again... 🙂

I'm very happy with this workaround. Thank you very much!

I talked to an Apple Care Technician on the phone today and he successfully walked me through solving this problem with OSX v. 10.5.7. It is mentioned earlier in this forum, but here are the steps clearly laid out for non-tech types (like myself)...

1. In System Preferences, open Network preferences.

2. Highlight "Ethernet" or "Built in Ethernet".

3. Click the Minus sign ( - ) (at the bottom of the window just above the unlocked lock icon) to delete the Ethernet configuration.

4. Click the Plus sign ( + ) (at the bottom of the window just above the lock icon) then select "Ethernet" from the menu that appears. Then click "CREATE". (a new Ethernet configuration is created in the left section of the window). Then click "APPLY" on the lower right side of the window. Close the window.

5. Sleep the computer by closing the lid. Then wake it up. Then sleep it again. Then wake it up again. Everything should now work fine.

Reboot, Sleep, Wake, Sleep, Wake, Sleep, Wake

W00t! Fixed.

This fixed it for me, too, on my MBP. Just be sure to enable en0 (ethernet), since enabling en1 or en2 doesn't do it.

SOLUTION: Adding an "Ethernet" service to the current configuration in the "Network" System Preference pane resolved the issue. I was using a Location which had Airport as its only network service.

No other actions were effective or necessary (and I had unfortunately worked through many diagnostic experiments before I recognized that the "freeze on second sleep" was the search term I should have been using.
