10.5.7 Macbook sleeps once, freezes second time

After installing 10.5.7 from combo update, I can now only sleep my mac once. Second time it does not sleep, instead it freezes.
It does this consistently.

I found another user with the same issue:
+Peter Hull+
+After applying the 10.5.7 Combo update, my MacBook freezes consistently the second time I put it to sleep. In other words, sleep works once, but the second time I close the lid or choose "Sleep" from the menu, it freezes before it has a chance to sleep (i.e., the screen backlight stays on, the sleep light doesn't start "snoring", etc+

Anybody got any solution?

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.5.2)

I have the exact same problem. On another forum it was suggested that removing Application Enhancer (in System Preferences panel) would fix it, but it doesn't help me as I don't have Application Enhancer in the first place...

Might not be the same problem:

If your MBP fits the products affected descriptions, it might be a flaky NVidia chipset.
Apple can check it quickly, but first make an appointment.

I have had this issue, I discovered I have the option to permit a bluetooth device to wake my MacBook Pro turned on. I turned this off ages ago, it seems like 10.5.7 turned this back on. Turned this back off, sleep has been working a treat since. No more hangs on wake or issues with going to sleep.

I do use a Wireless mighty mouse, and turned the option off as I kept waking the mac up when switching the mouse off. Update to 10.5.8 seems to have left things alone and as of today and all updates applied, all working as it should.

Just in case this is of help to anyone.

I have had this problem ever since the 10.5.7 update. I used software update to update to 10.5.8. It has it made it worse.

Earlier, using the ethernet add/remove dance, I had managed to extend the number of times the macbook could be put in deep sleep (I use the smartsleep widget). I used to be able to get 3-4 times before it would get frozen. Now, after the 10.5.8, it freezes on the second sleep attempt everytime.

I do not use the ethernet (exclusively the wireless). Another thing - my bluetooth is disabled. Two reasons for that - saves power, and second, the 10.5.7 update had started some causing some freezes even during active use (always accompanied with the spinning color wheel when the mouse was moved to the menubar). Then I read somewhere that the bluetooth was the cause of that. Disabled it and that kind of freezing behaviour went away.

There is another peculiarity about my setup. I partitioned my disk into two - one carries the OS (Macintosh HD) and the other is a TrueCrypt partition that carries all my data. The latter partition is obviously mounted during the attempts to deep sleep. And dismounting that before deep sleep is NOT an option (what would be the point of deep sleep if I cannot get back to what I was doing ?).

However, I am still stuck with a laptop that cannot hibernate more than once. I am a relatively recent user of Mac OSX. Before that, I used Linux, Sun and HP-UX for almost 15 years. Can't say I am overly impressed with this lack of reliability.
