Is there any way to use a Digi 001 as the audio interface for Garageband 08

Since I already have the Digi 001, I'm hoping that there is a way to use it as an audio interface for Garageband '08. Questions I've come up with are:
1. Do you have to have the ProTools software loaded to be able to access the hardware?
2. Is there a special driver set or special program to get it to be recognized?

Has anyone else attempted to do this?

Thanks...
Greg

Digidesign hardware usually requires the Digidesign CoreAudio driver to work with something like GB (downloadable from their site).

I'll check that out...I wonder if PT needs to be installed for this to work? I'm trying to use osx 10.4.11, GB '08, and I have PT LE ver. 6.1 Wonder if there are different versions of the digi driver that works best for this?

I don't think PT has to be installed, only the Digidesign CoreAudio driver (at least that's been my experience with Digi hardware, although I haven't used the Digi 001).

It probably does matter which version of the digi driver you use. This is one of the reasons why it's often a pain to use digi hardware with CoreAudio - digi's driver seems to fall in and out of favor with different versions of the OS. You could try and download the latest driver (maybe there's one for Tiger, one for Leopard) and see if that works, or go to one of the digi forums and see if someone has a more definitive answer.
