9600GT Has Gone Kaput?...What now?

Alright well I'm sure hundreds of these topics roll through here every month, but I am making sure that the symptoms of my problem are indicative of the faulty GPU problem that has plagued MBPs.

Everything has been fine since I got my MBP (Late 2008) back 3 days after it released, but today I was playing WoW (9600 GT enabled) and within 30-40 seconds of play, the screen went black and I had to forcefully shut down my laptop. Now, I tried again, and yielded the same result, black screen. Is this indicative of the faulty GPU that apple has released statements about?

Furthermore, I am still under my 1 year warranty, if I take it into the genius bar and determine that my GPU is indeed faulty, what will they do? Will they repair it? Issue me a new machine? I suppose I am looking for anyone who has experience with this endeavor or knows what the next step is.

Thank you for all help!

Macbook Pro (Late 2008), Mac OS X (10.5.7)

This does sound like it might be your GPU. More then likely the apple store will replace the bad part and return the laptop to you. But it seems every apple store has a different ways of dealing with these issues. I suggest you make sure any data you need is backed up. My previous MBP had the logic board go twice and then the GPU went and apple replaced it with a new MBP.

Ok well I just got off the phone with Tech Support and explained my issue and the representative replied by saying that this is a "Known Issue and that Apple is working on it" But there was no offer for any remedy until Apple figures it out. And unfortunately the Apple store in Salt Lake City is closed for another 2 weeks for remodeling so I am S.O.L until then....But I found it interesting because I've heard of many other customers getting repairs and replacements for their faulty GPUs but there was no remedy for my current situation, Think I should still take it into the Apple store once it re-opens?

I agree, take it in. It seems to me that going to an Apple store can sometimes yield better results then calling Tech support. As for turn around time in getting your MBP fixed. That depends on the apple store and how busy they are. I have waited a week and other times only waited two days. One of the benefits to going an Apple store is that you have a good chance of running into the Genius that helped you with this repair in the future if you ever have another problem.

Good Luck!
