Sudden LOUD buzz comming from the speakers!

Hey everyone,

I bought my iMac about 1 month ago, and installed Tiger as soon as it was released. For the second time till now, suddenly I get a VERY LOUD buzz noise comming from the speakers, and it lasts around 2 sec and then disappears. It made me scared to death, since it's totally sudden. Both times it happened I was using iChat and was about to press "return" to send a text messsage (from what I can remember). Does anyone know what might be going on? Anyone with the same issue?

I also got other speakers weird thing: suddenly when listening to music the speakers kind of "get stuck", the sound stops and I hear a few "blobs" comming from the speakers, as if the sound couldn't make its way out. The only way to get the sound back is by pressing the "mute" key. This happened only a few times too.

This is something I've experienced too. However, my iMac is at work, and I'm never using iTunes there, so it can't be directly related to that. To be honest, I've not noticed what's been happening at the exact moment, but as you say it makes you jump a bit! I'm now on 10.4.2 and can't be sure whether or not it's happened since this update. I'll post again if it should happen with this OS version.

I just got this a few minutes ago. Basically I had iTunes running, MSN was open (not iChat though - most of my friends have PCs and no AIM)... Mail was most likely open in the background. I was reading stuff in appleworks and had just tol classic to stop opening (it was opening because I opened a classic app by accident).

As soon as I clicked 'stop opening' I got a really loud (louder than max volume) and sudden buzz in the notes F and C (I'm quite musiccy), which nearly killed me with a heart attack, as I was only half awake anyway. It sounded like it was damaging the speakers, ad the speakers are to me, very, very important.

I only have one problem with my beautiful iMac, which is with it occasionally not shutting down properly. I'm running 10.3.9 as I'm too poor to afford Tiger yet. I don't like this at all, and can't ask Apple about it becasue their support is so abysmally poor. Nearest Apple store is about 3 hours away by car. Help!

Wait! Opened GarageBand and did what? That wasn't in the post. I've had this "foghorn" go off several times now and one of my employees is scared to touch her computer! did anyone actually come up with a fix?
