Time machine for piracy?

Question

Time machine for piracy?

If time machine backs up all your software on an external HDD, what's to prevent hooking up some laptop and pirating all the software to another machine?

macbook, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

The same thing that prevents somebody from stealing your Mac. It (and the info on it) is much more valuable than some software.

what I mean is TM seems to open the door for pirating programs. What's to stop someone from hooking their new Mac to a TM external drive and copying some expensive 3d software like Maya?

Yes, I know. And it's the same thing that prevents them from doing it by stealing your Mac.

How is it any different (except that your Mac is more expensive)?

You need the same sort of physical security for both.

People would want to access TM to steal software. Why spend $5,000 on an animation suite when you can steal it out of TM?

Their conscience. Stealing is wrong.

I'm not sure why you are singling out Time Machine. Any backup program will do the same thing; copy your data and programs to an external drive. Backing things up makes a second copy. I'm not sure how pirating software is relevant at all.
