Itunes Won't Burn Audio CD - Slow!

I have wasted nearly 10 CD-R's trying to get iTunes to burn an audio CD. I've burned cd's on this machine before with now problem. I think the issue started after I downloaded the 8.1 updates.

I can create a playlist and press "burn cd." It seems the CD is burning fine through the first track but after that it goes INSANELY SLOW and just stops in the middle of the 2nd track. I know it's not my driver, as I've been able to burn CD's from Windows Media Player...the problem with that is that MWP doesn't support the mp4 format. This is such a pain in the butt!

I have uninstalled and re-installed iTunes about 5 times with no solution. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I also replied to the other discussion, but I would like to mention that without being able to convert itunes purchases the itunes store is currently incredibly useless to me, I will no longer purchase anything until the Apple people fix this problem. Not to mention that I am now concerned that I will technically surpass the 7 cd limit without actually having burned any of the songs.

This trail exactly describes my problem discovered just today. This is a nightmare having worked all week to produce a special playlist for an upcoming high school reunion. That playlist needs to go to CDs. Have Vista Ultimate OS and iTunes 8.2.1.6. Can do about everything else fine but if I try to burn a CD (something I could do easily previously) than the CD drive locks up completely part way through and cannot be open without a reboot of the laptop. I tried a number of write speeds but it doesn't help. For a 14 song CD, lock up may occur in different places but never finishes. I do not know what this has done to the copy count vis a vis the 7 copy limit on some songs purchased from iTunes Store. So far, best solution sounds like trying to get back to an instance of iTunes 8.0 but would prefer a fix from Apple.

I have Windows XP with the latest version of iTunes downloaded just tonight...I have version 8.2.1.6. I did a library backup tonight of my daughter's iTunes library to move it to her new laptop. Seemed to burn fine, said it was finished, but it did not eject the disc. Hitting "eject disc" does nothing. There is no response. Here I sit with a DVD in the drive and have no clue how to get it out!

Ah, but I found a way of getting the CD out without rebooting. I went to Help>Run Diagnostics. It told me that there was nothing wrong with the CD burner/player and detected everything. And when it was done, I hit the eject button on the drive and it opened.

However, I cannot burn CDs anymore...so that means no more backing up to CDs or DVDs. Now iTunes needs to come up with a simple way of backing up to an external HD!

And incidentally, I can burn a CD using WMP and it ejects when done. The only thing is, it doesn't put titles of songs on the disk, so when I play it in iTunes I have Track 1, Track 2, etc. I assume I have to put those in manually.
And I can't export purchased songs from iTunes. Maybe I'll have to buy from Amazon.com from now on and import them into iTunes so that I can possibly burn them to CD at some point.

But this is a pain...

So, what's up with iTunes and the burning issues with 8.2???

I have uninstalled 8.2.1.6 and installed 8.1.1. Unfortunately, it now tells me that my library (.itl) file cannot be used because it was made with the newer version. (i.e. 8.2.1.6 modified the library after it was installed apparently using a modified format that is not backward compatible). This is a nightmare instituted by Apple. To put out a version that is incompatible with a widely used operating system and then modify the database format so that one can never return to some version that works seems at best to be uncaring of its customer base and at worst seems like a low blow against Windows users. I also own a Mac and a couple Apple iPods so consider myself a money paying customer but may never spend money with them again if I don't find a fix for the problem of not being able to burn CDs with iTunes 8.2.1.6 running under Windows Vista. I will try to reinstall latest iTunes but doubt that will help. Any suggestions?

I reinstalled 8.2.1.6 and have been able to burn a playlist to a couple of CDs. One at a speed of 8X and one at maximum speed available. I have verified the contents of the CDs so this seems to have fixed the problem. This suggests that maybe there was something that stepped on whatever iTunes placed during the original installation to get to the CD player. I am not aware of any other software that went on my machine between the time it would work and the time it wouldn't. So, if you have a problem burning CDs with Vista and iTunes 8.2.1.6, suggest you uninstall iTunes and reinstall it.
