Quicktime for 64-bit Windows

Yeah, having a 64-bit plugin is much different than the plugin working in 32-bit browsers on a 64-bit OS. Very few plugins as of right now are compatible with the x64 version of IE8. Flash, QT, and most don't work. Java does work in IE x64, but that just started pretty recently.

Same problem here. I'm on Windows 7 64bits (Ultimate).
I've buy the pro version of Quicktime, now I need use QT Pro.
What are you doing, Apple ?

To get the 64-bit version of Quicktime (and iTunes), go to the iTunes download page. It will show the 64-bit version. Also, if you look at the bottom of the page, where it says "Windows Software", it mentions under that that the Quicktime 7.6.4 or later is included with the installation of iTunes(64-bit).

This is not true, it is stil the 32bit version but comes with itunes 64bit.
Which is crap.

But, notice that the installer defaults to installing in the x86 folder, which I thought was for 32-bit applications. I changed it manually to install in the normal Program Files folder for real 64-bit and it runs fine, so I guess it really is 64-bit. Not sure if it matters...

I tried the same trick of setting the installation folder. Come to find out, it only applied to itunes--Quicktime was still installed in the x86 folder. As none of the file's properties, nor the "About..." info include any mention of being a 64-bit version, it's hard to know for sure whether it's really 64-bit.

This much is for sure, there was no 64-bit Quicktime Plugin for IE included in this update. So, we are where we started--Quicktime still lacks support for 64-bit Windows.

Correct. Quicktime itself is still a 32-bit executable, and there is no 64-bit plugin yet (And, in fact, there are very, very few 64-bit browser plugins at ALL at this time). All this thread really applies to is the fact that the Quicktime plugin for 32-bit browsers on a 64-bit OS is now working properly, and the control buttons/seek bar are now visible when watching embedded QT videos, such as those found on the Apple movie trailer website.

I like to be able to use IE8 64-bit knowing that plug-ins won't run, good to have a browser that is clean of all that stuff - even though it is possible to run IE8 and Firefox in Safe Mode also.

Considering plug-ins are and have been vulnerable and can impact loading pages, or you just want to load embedded content manually.

And more stable.

With java, there are 32-bit and 64-bit packages that both need to be installed if you want to use it.

So here's a vote to ban or not develop 64-bit plug-ins, at all!
