Specifying port in Remote Desktop Client Version 2.0

Hi,

I have a windows PC behind a router that I am trying to remote desktop to from my iMac. I am using the remote desktop client v2.o which I have downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx?pid=Mactopia_RDC&fid=803F9438-8DF3-4 90F-92C6-0E0F92787DB8#viewer

As I am port forwarding on the router to the PC's private IP address, I need to be able to hit port 4000 on the router. When I type in the <hostname>:4000 on the iMac's remote desktop client, it does not like the port number. Would anyone know how I can establish a connection to a port other than 3389 using the Remote Desktop Client from my iMac?

Thanks in advance.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

You cannot connect to port 4000 without following the KB article presented to you, as Windows does not listen on port 4000.

The only alternative is to port translate 4000 on the external interface of your router to port 3389 when the data is forwarded to your Windows machine.

<hostname>:port DOES work on the Mac RDP client - I've used it previously and just tested it right now.

Hello BH,

Thank you for replying and posting the link you did. I would not like to change the listening port on the server side. From the remote desktop client, I would like to change the port that it makes a connection to. By default, if you type in a hostname, the client connects to port 3389. I would like it to establish a connection with port 4000 of the server.

Please let me know if you have any recommendations on how to do this. Thanks.
