Can't open meeting requests sent to iPhone from MS Outlook

I know exactly what problem you're having. It's not a syncing issue. This is a recognized and reported issue. Any Microsoft Outlook Calendar invitation comes into your IPhone as an email with the .ics file attached to update your calender. The IPhone operating system does not recognize nor have any instructions as to what to do with a .ics file. When I discovered this a couple months ago, I researched and found out it has been reported to Apple. Some have speculated that the issue might be addressed in Release 3.0 but I haven't heard.

This is a significant issue for those of us who use the IPhone for business. From a novice's standpoint, it doesn't seem like it would be difficult to put in a few lines of code to recognize and then write the entry to the calendar. But then seems like Apple doesn't seem like it's a priority.

Is your outlook calender syncing on the iPhone. Almost sounds like syncing isn't turned on for the calender. Check Setting> Mail, Contacts, Calender. Look at the account that uses outlook, if you don't see Calendars listed below the account name it's most likely not turned on. If so, just select the account name to get to the menu where you can toggle it back on.

Meeting requests only seem to work if you are syncing your iPhone with an Exchange server. From the User's Guide: "If you have a Microsoft Exchange account set up on iPhone with Calendars enabled,
you can receive and respond to meeting invitations from people in your organization."

I was so excited when Apple released the iPhone 3.0 OS, mostly because I naively believed they would have incorporated the ability to respond to meeting invitations. I am not sure where the disconnect is but most of us do not have Exchange servers in place so that improvement is meaningless to the majority of us on POP servers.

I have the issue as well, and they have not fixed it in OS 3.0

Very dissapointing. I've got Outlook at work, and use Mail at home on my Mac and on my iPhone 3G, so when I go out of town for a meeting, I'd like to be able to forward the meeting request from Outlook to my iPhone and have it import the meeting into my Calendar on the phone.

This is another ball drop that I think should be fixed ASAP. Missing out on a large market without this implemented.

I am a new user (have a 3s) and also can't open meeting requests. This is a HUGE problem for me as I am not on an exchange server and often need to get back to clients letting them know if i can make the time. But, like others I can't until I get to my laptop.

So, does anyone know what Apple is doing about this? I am stunned that this has been an ongoing problem and they didn't fix it in the new os.

Oh.. please... please let me add my voice to this... like I can't believe this is not part of the functionality!

PLEASE APPLE.... SOME OF US ACTUALLY WANT THE IPHONE AS A USEFUL BUSINESS TOOL FOR OUR LIVES!

I'm throwing my hat in on this problem as well. Apple REALLY needs to get the meeting request/.ics thing working on the iPhone or my company will force me to have a blackberry. Fix the issue and save me from that phone!

*** - I just missed a meeting this morning because of this. I just assumed I didn't download an app or something and this would take care of it. How come a blackberry doesn't have this issue!!! This does not seem like a big deal to fix, c'mon Apple, get with it!! It needs to be fixed ASAP!!

I too am having this issue. Will keep my eyes on this to see if there is a quick fix.
