How do I: Turn Off Auto Blank Page on Start-up?

This happens with every word processor and spreadsheet I know of. How Do I turn off the "feature" that opens a blank page when I launch the program? 9-times-out-of-10 I plan on editing an existing document, I am completely capable of clicking the icon for a new page when I need one. It only wears on me early in the morning, especially Mondays, but sometimes Tuesdays.

As I wrote, the feature is already available.

Set the preferences to :

For New Documents : Show Templates Chooser and you will get this dialog on opening:

User uploaded file

It gives access to all useful choices:

use a template
ope a recent item
open an existing file.

So, as far as I know, there is nothing to require.

+In fact my post gave an illustration of what was said by Jerrold in message #2...+

My post, the first response to the original question, indicated that I saw the desired behavior and didn't know how to invoke the undesired, Blank New Document, behavior. Thanks to Yvan pointing out the Preference option for a Blank New Document, not that I have any interest in using it.

My apologies for not making the original post clear to our non-English-speaking guests. I do NOT want to have the Template Chooser popping up, I do not want a blank page opening, I do not want ANYTHING to open when I start the program. As was discussed, this is not possible. Drop it.

Isn't it the logical behavior.

As far as I know, every Word processor open with a blank document or with a page allowing us to select the document to open.

Not true. As mentioned before, AppleWorks 6 offers the option to show nothing. This is very handy if you want to include the application in your start up items but don't want to have to interact with it right away.

Wrong.

AppleWorks is _not a Word Processor_ but an integrated application.
In such a tool it's logical to default to none because the program can't guess if we want to use:
WP, SS, Paint, Draw, Database.

Pages is a Word Processor tool so there is no need for such an orientation table.
Removing the entry page, we would be forced to enter a menu to be able to reach:

New
New From Template Chooser
Open…
Open Recent > recents items

At this time we have access to all these choices immediately.
