Does Mac Mini output YpbPr video signals from Mini DisplayPort/Mini DVI?

Hey y'all,

Well, I've done a fair share of searching through fragmented threads and outdated discussions about the ins and outs of using the new Mac Mini for the central HTPC (that's "Home Theater PC" for the noobs) and I still can't get a straight concrete answer on one technicality that is preventing me from moving forward... maybe you'll be able to solve what no one else can. 😉

Here's my situation...

I have a older 67" Mitsubishi HDTV that can do 720p and 1080i resolution (so my media center must be able to support recording and playback of 1080i content). However, the TV doesn't have HDMI - it only has a single DVI input and several sets of Component (YpbPr) inputs.

Now, the DVI input is currently in use by my PS3 gaming console via a HDMI -> DVI adapter and works fine. That only leaves the component YpbPr connectors available.

Now, I know I can get Mini DisplayPort -> DVI -> Component (YpbPr) adapter cables, but YpbPr does not use the standard digital "RGB" data that DVI-I uses. So, in order for this adapter configuration to work, the Mac Mini graphics card must be able to specifically output YpbPr signals through the Mini DisplayPort (or the Mini DVI port).

I CANNOT FIND ANY VERIFIABLE INFORMATION WHETHER OR NOT THE NEW MAC MINI OUTPUTS YpbPr SIGNALS VIA MINI DISPLAYPORT (OR MINI DVI PORT)!!!

If it DOES, then I should be in good shape and I'll pick up my new Mac Mini and appropriate adaptors. If NOT, then is there any way I could get some kind of "automatic" bi-directional "Y" adapter for my HDTV's DVI connection so I can plug BOTH my PS3 and my Mac Mini's DVI connector into TV at the same time (not using both signal simultaneously, or course!)

I've got everything else figured out so any knowledgeable input would be friggin' grand!

😉 Thanks.
