My wife has got a voice message on her iphone with the caller as unknown and the date of 01/01/1970. All attempts to delete message fail it always seems to come back after a few hours or sometimes minutes. If you play the message there is nothing no sound whatsoever, does anybody know how to delete this message for good.

I have exactly the same problem with my iPhone on O2 in the UK.
On going into visual voicemail yesterday it showed up as a message from "Unknown" received on 01/01/1970 and 0 seconds long. When you try and listen it just gives the cirulating icon depicting that it is loading but never loads it. I can't delete it. My friends say that my phone was going straight to answerphone all day until I turned it off and on - but still can't get rid of the the 01/01/1970 message and today the phone does not seem to be taking calls from other iPhones on O2...
Call into your voice mail instead of using Visual Voice Mail.
Go to keypad and press and hold down the number 1 (call into voice mail).
See if you can delete it directly on the voice mail server that way.
If still and issue, call AT&T and have them take a look at your voice mail box (maybe have em reset it).
Sorry i am in the uk using the phone system of O2. Tried your method and it states that there is no messages on the system so cant delete it, but again on the iphone it says 1 message this unknown one date 1970. I think we better phone the help desk !
