SD/MMC card reader

SD/MMC card reader

I recently upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. While using Tiger my SD/MMC card reader worked fine. Now, it won't pop open in either the finder, the desktop, or in iPhoto. When I look under the USB tab of the system profiler, the mass storage device is there. I've tried changing the preferences in finder, but that didn't work. I've also installed 10.5.7 combo, but that didn't work either.
Any ideas??

Sorry if this sound like a stupid question, but did you put the memory card into the card reader?

yes. it's in. the system profiler sees that there is something there.

Launch Disk Utility.

Do you see the memory card volume listed?

You can also try from Terminal this command

disktool -l

when I typed disktool -l I got this output:

*Disk Appeared ('disk0',Mountpoint = '', fsType = '', volName = '')
*Disk Appeared ('disk0s1',Mountpoint = '', fsType = '', volName = '')
*Disk Appeared ('disk0s2',Mountpoint = '/', fsType = 'hfs', volName = 'Macintosh HD')

When I used disk utility I only saw the hard drive and the optical drive. I assume that one of the 3 above is the card reader, maybe?

Unfortunately not.
disk0 is the internal hard disk

Other than disk0 you should also see something like

*Disk Appeared ('disk1s1',Mountpoint = '/Volumes/TRAVELLER', fsType = 'msdos', volName = 'TRAVELLER')
*Disk Appeared ('disk1',Mountpoint = '', fsType = '', volName = '')

In this case disk1 is my USB memory stick named TRAVELLER

Can you test the card reader on another computer just in case to be sure it works fine.

You can also see on the manufacturer internet site if there are some more suggestion.

I tried it in my friend's laptop and it worked (she's running 10.5.7) and it still works in the camera.

Obviously have you already tried another USB port?
The same port can successfully read other peripherals?

Yup, tried both USB ports and they don't work for the card reader. However, both work for the other USB devices.

Detach the card reader.

Open Console. Click the icon Show log list on the toolbar. On the left column, select All messages underneath LOG DATABASE QUERIES. Click icon Clear Display.

Attach the card reader. Report here the lines showing up into log window.

Here is what I get from the Console:

Also, I double checked with my friend and she said that she hadn't updated to 10.5.7 yet, she's still running 10.5.6. So it could be a 10.5.7 issue.
