SD/MMC card reader

I recently upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. While using Tiger my SD/MMC card reader worked fine. Now, it won't pop open in either the finder, the desktop, or in iPhoto. When I look under the USB tab of the system profiler, the mass storage device is there. I've tried changing the preferences in finder, but that didn't work. I've also installed 10.5.7 combo, but that didn't work either.
Any ideas??

What kind of Mac you have?
Have you a USB drawing tablet, mice, keyboard connected?

It's a mac book, laptop. I don't have any of that connected regularly. But I can read a USB device when i put it in the USB slots. It just doesn't read the card reader.
