volume control earphones 1st generation iPod touch?

Does anyone know, are there earphones with volume control on the cord that work with the original/1st generation iPod touch? Or is a 2nd gen required to make that work regardless of brand of earphone? Thanks

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.6), Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz 512 MB

why would it matter which generation it is? maybe i'm wrong, but i'd say that headphones designed with a volume control would work on whatever player they are being used for. easiest way to find out, contact the manufacturers.

It matters because the volume control feature on both the 'Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic' and the
'Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic' only work with 2nd generation iPod touch, but not the original/1st generation.

The 2nd generation iPod touch has volume control buttons on it's side, the 1st does not. Maybe this additional feature is what allows the external earphone cord volume control to work? maybe something else? I don't know.

Yes, I would have assumed that the volume control is dependent upon the earphones, not the iPod, but apparently that is not the case.

I realize I can contact a manufacturer regarding a specific product.

I am asking, here, the general question, whether earphone cord volume control is dependent upon having a 2nd generation iPod.

fair enough.
but i think its the mic bit that the 1st gen won't work with. i would imagine that volume control ones will work fine.

i read on these forums that the second gen headphone jack is also a mic jack, which allows it to work with the apple product you are talking about.
i haven't looked into it further since i own a 1st gen.

A little bit of contradiction in that thread, but if you are satisfied then glad your problem was sorted out. I sold my Touch and don't have those headphones is why I didn't answer, would not want to pass on bad information that would interfere with your purchase.

If you buy those post back and let us know if they work.
