Genius Bar Question

Well, if your iMac is experiencing hardware problems, then you can get it fixed at any autorized Apple dealer, including the Apple store. That's not necessarily a Genius Bar problem.

By the way, you should change your computer description. If you have an iMac G5, then it's "Flat" by definition 🙂

The staff at the "Genius Bar" can make simple repairs - ie the same kind of repairs you could (in theory) do yourself at home. More complicated problems that require taking your Mac apart, diagnostic testing, or replacement parts, will all be passed off to the store's service center and will of course cost you money for parts and labor unless your Mac is still covered by its original warranty or an extended AppleCare warranty.

The standard warrantee is 12 months for hardware - parts and labor. You can take it to any authorized Apple repair center and they can fix it under that warrantee.

If you want to take it to the Apple Store, then make a reservation online and take it in.
