I have a Quicktime version that came when I bought my laptop. The OS system also came with the laptop. I have a Windows XP Home Edition. When I tried to install the Itunes latest version with quicktime it kept reporting that it is unable to remove the old version of quicktime and cannot continue with the installation. I have tried to follow the instructions with regards to removing the Quicktime including the 2 files inside the System 32 folder. I have restarted my pc and tried to install again but it still shows the same problem. Also the Quicktime logo is still showing up in my Add/Remove Program without a file size. So now I don't even have the quicktime anymore. Don't even know what else I can do to completely remove the old file.
The first thing you have to do is establish what user account is administrator that owns QT with full control. Then the windows computer must be clean.
I am the Administrator of my pc there are no secondary accounts. also does cleaning the quicktime files include the new versions that i have downloaded but wasn't able to completely install?
the files are in folders with application data in the file name these are the ones reporting that it is unable to find or access source file and will not let me continue with the deletion. Thank you for any help with this problem.
I also tried to remove all files related to apple quicktime and itunes in safe mode but when i downloaded another itunes installer the same this happens. it says it cannot continue with the setup because it cannot remove the old version of quicktime.
ok what finally worked is that I installed the windows install cleanup. what I have been working at for hours took just around 15 min. but as I understand it you have to be very careful with it or you might accidentally remove files that you need. Thank you for your help.
