I have the same problem in XP. So far I've tried the following:
1. reinstalled itunes (newest version 9.0.2.25).
2. reinstalled directX
3. checked video card settings (Hardware acceleration is on and no driver updates are available.)
4. ran dxdiag...tested directdraw and direct3d...both are ok.
5. renamed the cache and download folders and redownloaded the album art.
My setup does utilize a second monitor (which is a TV). Next, I'm going to try disabling that and see if it helps. However, the dual monitor is much more important to me than the coverflow. Has anyone come up with a better solution?
My problem is the same, but I don't think it's the graphics card. Usually (about 80% - 90%) the "Cover Flow" doesn't work, but the "List" and "Grid" displays do. This tells me that the album artwork is there and that it's in the correct place for iTunes to access it. However, sometimes "Cover Flow" does work for varying periods (sometimes for a few hours, sometimes for several days), then it fails again, leaving me with the giant black box above the music list.
I called Apple Tech Support about this on several occasions, but most techs have
no idea how to fix this, some even putting me on hold while they look through their documentation. However, one time I talked to a lady techie, and she knew right away what to have me do. She had me do something in the options, and the "Cover Flow" came right back on! I thought (stupidly, as it turned out) that the problem had been permanently fixed, so I didn't write down what she had had me do. Now I'm back in the same situation, and
still nobody at Apple Tech Support has any ideas!
This problem only appeared after I upgraded to v9.0.2.25. I tried going back a release / version or two, but after installation, they all say the songs were created by a newer version of iTunes, so they can't be played. ARRGH!!!
