Cube's MATSHITA DVD-ROM SR-8186

I have a 450MHz Mac Cube with the above drive.

System Profiler gives me the following information:

MATSHITADVD-ROM SR-8186:
Model: MATSHITADVD-ROM SR-8186
Revision: F113
Serial Number:
Detachable Drive: No
Protocol: ATAPI
Unit Number: 1
Socket Type: Internal

Am I correct that DVD-ROM drives cannot burn CD-R's?
A stupid question, I am sure, but it's been a long while since I dealt with DVD-ROM drives.

G5 Tower (Dual 2GHz), Mac OS X (10.5.7), MacBook Pro (2007)

DVD-ROMs can read and write CDs and read DVDs, but not burn DVDs.

That's what I was hoping -- that it can burn CD-R's.
The drive can certainly read CD's with no problem.

But, in System Profiler, if I click on *Disc Burning*, it tells me that there is no hardware that can burn media.

How could this be happening???

Hi-

A DVD-ROM drive can only read DVD and CD.
A CD-RW DVD-ROM Combo drive can read/burn CD and read DVD.

The SR-8186 is a CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive. It has no burn capability.
