Voicemail??

Voicemail??

I went to set up my voice mail on my iphone and I choosed to have it be the animated kind, set-up my password. But I can't get voicemail, am I missing somehting? When I call the voice mail it says hit pound if you have a voicemail I hit it then it asks for some numbers which I thought was password so I typed it in an it says sorry there is no voicemail setup with those numbers.

Need help

Just to be clear, I'll translate what I think you mean into cell phone terminology that the rest of us use:

"animated voicemail" = default (voice synthesized) greeting.
"custom voicemail" = custom (your voice) greeting.

and it calls it. It says welcome to att voicemail we need more information to direct your call to the propriet mailbox,

How did you call voicemail?

If you can't get it to work properly, you need to call AT&T and get them to walk you through it or fixed at their end.

There's not much useful info in your post to go by. I'm guessing that you're not in the USA using AT&T since you're not talking about visual voicemail. I have no idea what you mean by "the animated kind" (Simpsons Voicemail?). All voicemail, with all carriers and cell phones, has to be set up by the cell carrier first. Did you contact them?

From USA. I didn't haven't have the voicemail setup. So what I did was on m iphone 3G I click (touched) the voicemail. I had to put a password in to save, did that then it said that I can make a custome or animated (means the computerrized) voicemail. I didn't feel like making one so I said do the animated one. Did that and it said its been completed. My girlfriend calls the phone and it still says I don't have a voicemail. Even I called and it didn't work.

So I figured let me go back to the voicemail and it calls it. It says welcome to att voicemail we need more information to direct your call to the propriet mailbox, if you have a mailbox on this system please press pound I hit that and it says Mailbox number please.

I don't have a mailbox number it never gave me one. Did I do something wrong?
