Missing serial number

I just got my iMac back from the Apple Store where the logic board was replaced. I noticed when I ran "About this Mac -> Hardware Overview" my serial number was missing. Not a big deal but I use it from time to time for reference. Can I fix this?

Good news:
It is possible to have it back everywhere just like on the first day.

Bad news:
The only way is to have it done by an Apple technician.

Mikey-San by mentioning IOKit was leading to the answer:
a "Set Serial Number" bootable CD.
