Last played problem on 8.2.0.23

I've just updated to version 8.2.0.23 of iTunes. And I wish I hadn't. Now it seems iTunes can't keep track of which tracks I've played. It's rubbish. I'm on a 2nd gen shuffle. Anyone else finding this? Got a way round it? Please help! I can't believe how crap the software is at the moment.

I think I've finally tracked it down. It seems it gets screwed up when the sort order of the tracks on the shuffle in iTunes is not the default one. Stupid software.

on iTunes 8.1, if you disabled the 'replace items when autofilling' option and manually removed content, then the playcounts were updated correctly.

Is that fix not working anymore after 8.2?

Yeah I was aware of that fix for 8.1. It's not working in 8.2 though. You have to have the shuffle order in the playlist viewer set to be the default (where the numbers are at the left) and then it works, otherwise not. Right pain having to work it out every time.

Odd. I upgraded today and am not experiencing that. Maybe I'm not understanding your issue. But, for me, it's working the same as with 8.1.2: I have to un-check the option to replace items when autofilling. When I do that, my play counts are updated correctly. And I have my shuffle set to sort by last played, not the default sort (by numbers).

Hmm that is odd as it sounds like you're doing the same as I was. Anyhow - not too bothered now that I've worked out a way of getting it to work. Oh for software that works...

I spoke too soon. It was working on Saturday. Then on Sunday evening(after making no changes to anything), it stopped working. Frustrated is not the word for how I feel. So to understand what you're saying:

With iTunes 8.2, do you have to have the 'replace items when autofilling' un-checked and you can't sort by any column except the number column (on the far left)?

So maybe I need to remove all content from the shuffle and re-load it with my playlist and then make sure to leave the sort alone on it?
