If You're trying to restore on old IPod classic and You get this message, there is a way to restore by creating the following folders in the root directory of the iPod:

Contacts

Calendars

Recordings

iPod Photo Cache

Photos

iPod_Control

open iPod_Control and make a "Music" folder. Hide the iPod_Control folder.

I was able to do the and was able to upload music on the iPod to iTunes.

Steven, I am currently having the same issue as the others here. I found the particulars like you mentioned above however, you mentioned that it may look different and that is okay. So where do I add this # and did not see this localhost # 127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com but rather mine says

127.0.0.1 localhost

Was unclear where to add this # symbol. Right before the locahost like so:

127.0.0.1 # localhost

or

#

127.0.0.1 localhost

?????????????????????????

Any help would be appreciated.

Got the answer that I was looking for. It was easy enough as I didn't have to do these steps that this post mentioned. All I had to do was go to:

Tools

Internet Options

Click Advanced Tab

Scroll down and find Security

Then uncheck "Check for server certificate revocation*

This one worked for me and I was able to update all my iPods.

Hope it works for you, too.
