yahoo mail - authentication failed?

I have had bt yahoo mail set up on my iphone for ages but today all of a sudden its not working, I've tried deleting it and putting it back in again but it just says authentication failed.

Anyone know how to correct this? or heard of it before? its really weird and annoying.

Thanks

I'm on my iPod Touch & it's the same problem. It's not the ISP either because everything else is working fine - including all the aps on the Touch

What "everything else" is working that has to do with ISP/mail server function? The apps on an iPod Touch or iPhone have nothing to do with this.

It obviously in not an Apple issue, and even if it was, this is a user-to-user support site, not Apple. I suggest you contact Yahoo.

With your iPhone, I suggest you turn off WiFI and try again.

modular747 - why are you getting so defensive? I'm having the same problem just like everyone else on this thread. And I'm trying to figure out what the problem is as well. So I would really appreciate it if you toned it down a bit. I understand that this is a user-to-user support site which is why I posted on here like everyone else.

As for turning the device on & off - done. As well as resetting to factory settings, deleting the account & adding it again, manually configuring the smtp - everything has been done & nothing is working. As I mentioned earlier, I've contacted Yahoo & am waiting for a response. As soon as I get one I'll post it here.

Same here. I live in London. I tried everything including removing the account from the app and adding it again. Still does not work. Now it says Wrong Name or Password. I also noticed that my password looks shorter after I introduced.. but don't know if relevant.

I sent a message to yahoo to see what happens.

What you posted was: "+I really wish someone at either Apple or Yahoo would get on this+. "
That doesn't sound to me that you're asking for help from other users.
My point was that everything you posted points to a problem with Yahoo or your ISP, not the iPhone, and this is an iPhone 3G support site.

O.K. modular747 - I'm not going to continue this pedantic discussion with you any longer. I'm here just like everyone else to figure out why the iPhone & iPod Touch - which share the same software & therefore the same problems - are not working. Why exactly are you here?

Has anyone tried to delete the smtp server from within the settings? I've tried that as well & it still won't work. I think at this point we just have to keep getting in touch with Yahoo & wait for their response. I'll post as soon as I get a response to my question from them.

Cheers
🙂

Why exactly are you here?

To help other users who have actual problems with the iPhone, not their cell carriers, ISPs or email servers. If it was the phone or the firmware, it would affect everyone using it. Despite the fact that you now realize this is a Yahoo issue, you seem to feel that this forum can provide a solution for you.

Not via webmail access using a browser. Do you also access the account with an email client on your computer? Accessing an account via webmail access is different from accessing the account with an email client. There is no incoming mail server connection required for checking for new messages, and no SMTP server connection required for sending messages via webmail access using a browser.
