Comp won't boot after installing Safari 4

After installing the new safari 4 on my Powermac G5, you have to restart the comp. Help... now I only get a grey screen! safe mode didn't work... what to do?

i was wondering how i'd go about on my yet-to-be-updated macs -- un-installing the safari beta
should prevent the probs in the first place, shouldn't it??

sooo, on another machine with more or less the same configuration as on my crashed mac, i used the bundled safari beta uninstaller to uninstall, restarted, installed safari 4, and see: there were no problems. quicktime also still works without problems. (i still have to use your 2nd hack on the other machine, bartek, quicktime did die there, too)

funny enough, there is no safari 4.0.1 for Tiger, so far — i was hoping that apple would address the probs discussed in this thread in a future update … …

I'm about to try a third Archive and Install on a G4 iBook running 10.4.11.....

Reinstalled OS (A+I) from a 10.4.6 DVD because machine was hanging on startup at spinning gear (with Safari 4 update installed).
A+I went fine. No disk repair was necessary according to Disk Utility, repaired permissions. Proceeded to run Software Update, all three batches (incl. Java 6, 7, 8, 9) except the Safari update. Now this notebook is stuck in a loop: Login window asks for (and gets) password, machine goes to desktop, most of menubar fills in, spinning beachball, machine does not accept any input while (verified) hard drive grinds away, then it's back to the login window asking for password.

This time, I'm stopping any updates just after the 10.4.11 combined G4 update. Machine was working fine at that point.....
