Wireless network issues with Dlink DI-524 & DWL-G810

I have two different Mac computers that I am trying to hook up with a wireless network. My G4 is hard wired into a Dlink DI-524 wireless router and my iMac is connected by ethernet cable to the DWL-G810 to wirelessly access connection. I had the connection working for about two weeks, and then I had trouble with the DI-524 router. I have since traced this problem to fire wall conflict and I think it is resolved. However, the wireless connection is not working. I can see the SSID being broadcast by the DI-524, but I can't access the internet. During this timeframe I also upgraded the iMac to 10.2.8 from 9.2.2 (not knowing I was going to have the DI router problems).

I can successfully ping both the iMac IP address and the DWL IP address from the hardwired G4. The wireless iMac can also successfully ping the G4's IP address, but not the router's address. I am using DHCP to assign my IP addresses for both computers. I don't have any security on my system yet - I need to have it work first.

I would appreciate any suggestions. I have already talked to D-link, and while they helped me figure out the firewall issue with the router, they were unable to help with the DWL wireless issues.

Well when your hard wired to your DWL bridge and logged into it(192.168.0.30) go to the wireless tab click on Site survey-you should get the 524's SSID available to click on and connect, that's about all you have to do.-Oh and set your IP address back to DHCP on the MAC with the DWL. Make sure you have no encryption settings on the router first, disable third party firewalls and make sure you're not to far from the router. Make sure your router has a WAN IP address under the status page -that means your is router is connected to your ISP and handshaking with the modem, make sure router has the latest firmware for REV A/B its 1.20 and REV C is 3.20

Thanks so much for the reply. I went through the DWL setup again to detect the 524's SSID, and the DWL is seeing the SSID. In fact, when I go to the setup screen for the 524, it is telling me that the DWL is connected. I turned off all encryption and firewalls that I could find. It still didn't work, so I moved the DWL and the iMac into the same room with the 524.

The WAN address is showing up on the 524. The only odd thing I noticed is that the iMac stopped getting its IP address from the 524 and I needed to reset it. Of course, I did forget to turn it off last night so it had all night to lose that connection.

After surfing some other discussions on this website, I did turn on Appletalk on both computers.

All that, and still no luck. Once again, the 524 sees the DWL, and I can ping the DWL and the iMac successfully. From the iMac, I can ping the computer hardwired to the 524 (the G4), but not the IP address of the 524 itself (odd - doesn't the ping need to go through the router to get to the G4). Dlink thought there might be something wrong with DWL, but since it sees the SSID and replies to the pings from the G4 it must be doing something. Can you think of anything else?

Well your DWL says your connected to the MAC on the wireless tab.thats one thing.
You logged into DWL origanlly with a Manual address on your IMAC didn't you?, set it back to DHCP to see if the router assignes you an IP through DHCP.
On your IMAC first the router needs to Ping back, if it does, then ping 4.2.2.2 which is DNS and then ping yahoo,com if you get replies you are connected to the internet.But again let the router assign your IMAC an IP through DHCP because when you log into the DWL originaly you have to set a static IP address to be able to log into it like you did. Also, did you ever power cycle your router and your DWL for a minute sometimes that helps. Good luck your products seem to be working but not configuring properly, try the DWL on the G4 see if it connects, Aways try to eliminate problems by trying other computers too. Well hope I make sense and good luck.

Thanks for the help, I tried switching the computers around with but it didn't help. I ended up giving up and going out to buy a Netgear wireless router. I got the router because then I could replace either the DI-524 router or DWL-G810, whichever one was having the problem. I started out replacing the DI-524, and my system works fine now. All that time spent on a crappy router....

Thanks for all the help - I definitely learned a lot about how to setup my wireless system from this!
