Brother 9840CDW Scanning Sideways!

I have had several Brother MFCs -- all very good overall, especially for the price.

My new 9840CDW was working great ($450 on sale from Staples) but all of a sudden scans to .pdf are coming out sideways. In other words, the scan goes through but the scan .pdf is oriented sideways so the top half of the page is on the left and there is blank on the right.

It seems like some sort of orientation setting got changed yet there appears to be nowhere to fix this. Everything shows a proper 8.5x11 scan -- even pre-scan is correct! But the real scan is not oriented correctly. Reinstalled drivers, rebooted, etc, no luck.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

Heard back from Brother. Their suggested fix did not solve the problem. I am able to "preview scan" the document in the correct portrait orientation, but it shifts to landscape when converted to .pdf. There is some default to landscape somewhere in a preferences file for the .pdf engine. I am not having this issue with another Mac I own.
