Since upgrading yesterday from Safari 4 beta to Safari 4 proper (and from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7), a strange things happen: when I scroll up or down in Safari, the color fades. It returns if I stop and click outside the app (i.e. on the desktop background), then recurs if I again scroll in Safari. Didn't happen before the upgrade, and it's quite annoying. Any suggestions?
macbook,
Mac OS X (10.5.7),
2 GHz Intel Core Duo, 2 GB RAM
Indeed he is wrong. I also have a macbook pro with a single user, but dual screen. Repairing permissions did not fix it for me. When it started I thought I was going colour blind or something as it started fading out colour on my webpage on full screen.
I thought I would have to find a new job being colour blind and all. Anyway... Any other suggestions?
I found I can bring back the colours by dragging to the other screen and back, but this is just annoying.
I also had this problem. The way to fix this problem is to reset safari but uncheck delete usernames and passwords on the menu, when you have done that go to your desktop and on the menu bar click go and then click home on the drop down menu. When you have clicked home go down to the folder called preferences, once you have clicked that drag the file named apple.safari.plist to your trash can. Once you have done that empty the trash and restart your computer and then go into safari and the problem is fixed.
Is it just me, or has anybody else noticed a pattern with display problems in Safari 4 and 10.5.7 updates, in as much as that nearly all issues have occured on MacBooks MacBook Pros and macs running additional screens under 10.5.7. Is this a coincidence? Or maybe this is the reason that apple have just announced a soon to be released 10.5.8
Just an observation with this display issue and thought the 10.5.7 release and Safari 4 release may be connected on the Macbooks.
Cheers
I'm having this problem as well, plastic MacBook, fast user switching, external monitor. Dragging the Safari window to the MacBook screen and then back to the external monitor fixes it temporarily.
As some others have pointed out, this is a rather large and obvious bug to have slipped through testing.
Also noticed, the gamma on both displays is screwed once this happens, ical for instance doesn't look like it's actually highlighting the current day and selected day. unplugging the external monitor and plugging it back in tends to fix this.
I tested this method (reset safari, delete safari pref etc) - and it doesn't work for me. Like (apparently) most others here, I have a macbook pro with an external screen and often switch users.... Now my question is: do you guys from Apple already have a solution here, or do we just have to wait for 10.5.8 / the next Safari update?
Opened Disk Utility, hit "Repair permissions". Restarted Safari 4.0.1 and graphic problems went away. Have not tested with Fast User Switching or restart yet.
I have this bug on the G5 bi 1,8GHz at work. The bug is not present on my iMac at home.
Both are PPC, but I see Intel have the same problem. Using Safari 4 or 4.0.1, doesn't matter.
Apparently, as people say, it comes from using the computer with external display.
Rebooting makes things go alright until I put the mac to sleep or go back to login window (without closing the session).
The bug is only present in Safari and makes it nearly unusable. Please (Apple staff) correct this!
I just started having this problem on my Mac Pro after I installed the NVidia GEForce GT120 (previously had ATI 2600HD).
Are all the people having this problem using NVidia graphics? Maybe something needs to be tweaked in the NVidia drivers that were released in 10.5.6 (guessing since the new card says required 10.5.6)?
