If I get a 3GS, can I turn my iPhone into an iPod Touch?

I bought the original iPhone when it came out and I want to buy a 3GS when they are available. When I do, I'd like to use my old iPhone to run Remote to control iTunes running on my music server. Can I turn off the phone part of the iPhone but still have Wifi and run apps like Remote?

of course you can, once they deactivate your origional iPhone and activate the 3G S on your phone plan the origional wont be able to access the network. They need to make it active on the network or have the sim card in it to run on the network

Hi,

Yes, you can use the original iPhone without a service plan.
This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3406 provides more details.

Just leave the SIM that was last used with in the iPhone in it, so you can easily update and restore the iPhone.
