Browser hijack? Virus? Halp!

So, first off, I wasn't sure what category to put this in, so I made my best guess.

So, the problem I have is that on Safari, Opera, and Internet Explorer, whenever I try to go to ANY website, it redirects me to http://www.hickoryfarms.com/x_e.asp?r=tastefulrewards But also, that website refuses to load. I tried the website in FireFox (My default browser, by the way.) and it seems to be a genuine Hickory Farms website. After that, I figured I must have a virus. Which is odd to me since it's a Mac but there's a first time for everything. But then I did a little research and I'm now of the opinion that it is not a virus, but a browser hijack. I don't know what to think. Does anyone here have anything?

hello,
today both my wife and i, on the same wireless network, got redirected to "best-antivirus9.com" when clicking on a link from a google search. there is no change in my DNS settings and i was looking for strange files on my computer, but why would she get it too? from looking in her firefox history (i use safari) i see she was redirected to "adeptofmastery.cn".

what would it take for BOTH of us to get the same redirect, and how to fix it?

seems to me that since both macs on our network got the same redirect, the problem is at the router, not on the macs. i have verizon and a westell 327w router. i was going to change the DNS settings to opendns, but when i log onto the router what i see is nothing like the instructions at opendns

https://www.opendns.com/start/device/westell

there is no "configuration" tab. under "advanced" there is "dns server" with 3 entries, all 192.168.1.1
so i suppose i must be using some default verizon dns. does anyone know how to configure the verizon westell 327w for opendns?

I suspect that you have the proxy set. You may have set this or an application you installed may have set this.

To set it back go to:
apple menu
system preferences
network
choose the one which is active(it will have a green indicator), be it airport, ethernet or dial up. If ethernet and another one are both active, choose ethernet.
If ethernet is active click "advanced"
click on the proxies tab.
on the left hand side, nothing should be checked, you do need to scroll.
the bottom box is labeled "Bypass proxy settings for these hosts and domains:" That box should contain:
*.local, 169.254/16

"*.local" is for bonjour which only works on local networks.
169.254/16 allows you to connect to local network computers when there is not a valid dhcp computer on a network using it's self assigned network address.

all other fields on this page should be blank.

Please reply to this thread if this fixes your issue.
