Templates!! Yes! (but where)

Did you remove the .html extension? If so and it's still not opening, try using UnStuffit if you have it on your machine.

while you are on the topic of iDVD themes... I'm looking for an old Apple theme that I used to have and don't know what happened to it. I have version 3 themes and version 4 themes, but I'm looking for the simple animated clouds theme. Where should I be looking for that if I still have it somewhere???

It's called "Blue Sky" and I think it came with the very first version of iDVD. For some reason it's now in my Favorites section.

You are right, it came with the first version. I still have it installed on my desktop mac. Doing a search for the theme files yeilded nothing but I found it when I launched iDVD and looked under the "Old Themes" tab. However, none of those old themes are in my favorites folder. I am thinking that if I want to preserve them to be able to use them again later if I ever need to do a clean System install... and if I don't want to first install the first iDVD and then each version after to get version 3 themes and version 4 themes... which makes me wonder... Were there ever any version 2 themese?

Anyway, is there somewhere in the system that I can just grab them and copy them? Or do I need to save each one as a favorite so I can archive it?

The themes are located within the iDVD application package in the iDVD/Contents/Resources folder. They are the files that end with ".theme". You can copy them out to where ever you'd like.

You are awesome. Now how easy was that? I decided to just go ahead and archive all of them so I know I'll always have them. Now that I've done that, lets say there are a bunch I don't think I'll ever use. Can I go ahead and delete them to save disk space and keep things mean and lean? And say, when I need one just put it back?

Sure you can delete them. Depending on which version of iDVD they came from you may still have them on the software install disks that came with your computer. If so, you'll always be able to get them back.

Oh, I still have them all, all right. (I think I even still have my OS7 install floppies, why I don't know) But wouldn't I have to install each version in order to get them again? For example, God forbid, if I had to do an erase and install of my HD and say this is a year or two from now when iDVD6 or 7 is out and the next operating system... would I even be able to install iDVD 2 to get the old templates and then each additional update to get them all? Wouldn't just be easier to drag over those theme files to the new install and be up and running quickly?

I strongly suggest you look into getting an external FireWire HD. You can clone your boot drive to it and use it as a backup and emergency boot drive. If you do have to do an erase an install, you can use the Setup Assistant to bring over your applications, preferences, doucments, etc. in very little time. I have an external FW HD. I typically only backup my user folder though. What do you use to clone your boot drive?

I use SuperDuper to clone my entire boot drive to the FW drive. That give's me a bootable backup drive. I then use Synk to backup my iPhoto Library folder and other critical document folders on a frequent basis.
