I like to use strikethrough a lot, and each time I have to use the mouse (Format/Font/Strikethrough). Is there a way to give it a shortcut, such as "option -" ??, or maybe control-something.

Mac OS X (10.5.5)
I am looking for the exact same shortcut. I have done what Fruhulda suggests, but am unclear as to what the button character is?
I follow as far as "customize toolbar" from there I don't understand the suggestion. I am trying to use the keyboard short cut in Notes within Mail.
After you click view/customize toolbar, you will see an array of icons. One of them is an underlined letter "a" with the word "Character" under it. Click on that icon and move up upward to the gray area near the top. Then when using Pages, select the word or phrase you want to strikethrough and click on the new icon you've added.
I am trying to use strikethrough in Notes within Mail. I noticed that the customize tool bar has different options depending on where you open it. So for instance, if you open customize tool bar in Mail, that does not have the "A" with the word character under it. Nor does the Finder window.
John, which program are you using while you see the underlined letter A?
Really, I would like to find a shortcut to strike through in Notes so that when the new iPhone OS comes out on June 17 I can use notes as my to do list.
Why they don't sync the to do's within Mail as well, I have no idea.... Wouldn't it be nice?
