After 3 tries (I really didn't know what password it was asking for), I was received a warning about 3 incorrect attempts and then no more prompts to enter my password. Was I supposed to enter my user password? So is this a penalty box thing, or am I banned from terminal forever? Please advise.
It doesn't run the command. That's about it.
Just arrow up until you find the command (or retype it) and hit return.
I don't know why you would have been asked for a password on the first one as it is incorrect. The second one, using sudo (super user do) will ask for a password.
I'm not familiar with the particular hack you are trying to use but I would advise you to be VERY careful with using any commands that modify system files as those commands seem to. also, the first command doesn't make any sense. I suspect you cut it off and didn't post the whole thing.
in general a command that starts with sudo is asking for your user password (the same one you use to log in). you have to be an admin user to use it.
