compatibility mode

When launching Itunes, I receive a windows message saying:
"iTunes.exe has been set to run in compatibility mode for an older version of Windows.

For best result, turn off compatibility mode of iTunes before you open it."

If I push through the window by selecting "OK", iTunes launces and functions normally however the message is very annoying. Can someone advise on how to turn of compatibility mode? I acnnot find any help on this usbject.

thanks

Great answer Jason and it was easy to do. Just find regedit and follow the instructions. I had to screw my courage up a bit when I got a popup that said Do you really want to delete this item (itunes.exe) It could damage your computer. Not those exact words but like that. I deleted anyway and the annoying nag screen that I was running in compatiblility mode for and older version was gone. I wish Apple support had this info on their site. Thank you though as I would not have thought to do this on my own. This will probably only work in Windows 7, but might be worth a try with other applications. Hooray for Jason!

Actually Jason I just thought about the reason you were doing that and realised I didn't need to - I deleted the iTunes registry file and problem evaporated - thanks anyway.

Stuart,

Sounds like all those Application files you mention have something checked in Compatibility Mode - right click on each Application file within C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and check Compatibility Mode settings in each case to make sure no check-boxes are populated - I had both iTunes and iTunes Helper files in my Registry, after unchecking 'Run this program as Administrator' the Helper file ceased to exist in the Registry. The iTunes file however never goes away which is what I think the issue is here hence the need for deletion...I just answered my own question to Jason, I no longer have the problem.

Its been a while Hughenn since you posted, but since I was at a loss when it came to starting at "square one", I thought I would reply to your post for anyone else who shared our problem.

I did a search for "regedit" on my computer. When this was found and clicked on, a list of HKEYs came up. From there one can follow Jason's instructions exactly. When you find the "itunes.exe" within the folders he specifies, delete it. And just as everyone else here claims, it works like a charm! 🙂
