Serious Problem: Bottom third of screen is dark gray with vertical lines
As the title says, the bottom third of the screen is a dark gray screen with vertical colors here and there going the entire length of the screen. It blocks anything behind so it blocks the lower desktop and all of my applications. In the past, this has happened and I have been able to tap the screen and it goes away. Now nothing is making it go away. I've had display problems for awhile now but this is the worst. Any help is greatly appreciated!
The first thing you want to do is tell for sure if this is a hardware issue or not. The easiest way to do that is to boot from the install disk that came with your MacBook Pro and see if the issue is present then.
To do this, insert the install DVD, then restart the MacBook Pro and hold down the C key during startup. Is the issue present? If yes, then it is definitely a hardware issue and you should take the computer to an Apple retail store or Apple authorized service provider to get it fixed.
If the issue is
not present when booted to the disk, then it is likely a software issue. Post back and we'll see what we can do.
hey i think im having the same problems too. the first time it happened was only about a month after i had purchased the laptop. I didnt think anything of it and just thought i had been staring at the screen for so long that it was an optical illusion or something. but it has happened every so often since then over the past year. and only now i decided to search it and see if anyone else was having problems like me. i took a picture of my screen with my phone at the time before it corrected itself. i cannot post it on here so let me know if you would like me to email it to you.
