I installed this update without any issues this evening and it's completely buggered up my Safari and Firefox on my MacPro. In fact, I have a hard time rendering any webpage! I've tried my default apple start page, macrumors, cnn and yahoo and virtually any other page I regularly access. It won't completely render the Yahoo homepage and it's been nearly 5 minutes! I had to post this on my MBP which hasn't had the update since I couldn't even render apple's own website well. I've tried restarting my machine and emptying my safari cache. I know it's not my connection because my MBP is fine and my mail is downloading fine. It's just my web browsers. What's going on? Apple tech support is closed for the night! UGH!

As I mentioned in my original post, the update went seemlessly. I quit all my browsers (safari and firefox) and ran the update. About 3-4 minutes later I got a message that the update was succesful. However when I relaunched Safari (v4.0) the first thing I noticed was my startpage www.apple.com/startpage couldn't load, it just kept saying "loading." I tried loading CNN then Yahoo, then abcnews.com all with the same results. I frequent macrumors.com and tried loading it with little success. Then, I tried loading the same webpages with Firefox which appears to have the same page load issues. Any ideas?
Except that my permissions repair is all screwed up on three different Macs. But this was a problem before this java update and does not appear to be connected.
Thnks Pedro, it seems to be installed now for me too.
i just rebooted *without extension*
repaired permissions
( big repair on quicktime's components )
but they're always displayed as needed repairs at each reboot.
even thought SU seems to install the downloaded java update, javaws don't works.
i need to confirm though.
Strange behaviour and my first problem with SU
If it does fix the problem, I'll get on my PowerMac G4 and see if I can remove then completely reinstall the Java update, and send you instructions.
I'm curious as to why the web pages don't load at all, you would think you would get SOMETHING, just not the Java crap. I was also thinking maybe there is a version conflict between the new Java and Adobe flash, but again you would think you would get SOMETHING!
