Keep getting kicked offline - Constantly having to power cycle modem/router

We just moved into a new apartment and set up our wireless internet. We both have 2008 MacBooks. Every time I come home from work, I cannot get online until I power cycle both the modem and the wireless router. Recently, I'm getting kicked offline every time I let my computer sit for 10 minutes.

My girlfriend, however, has no issues whatsoever. She can come and go and always get online.

It's obviously my machine. Any suggestion?

OK, if you can connect to the router whatever the situation from the Mac and you can connect to the internet again whatever the situation with the mac connected to the Modem, it looks as though the router could be faulty. I understand that you have tried 2 Macs and they both have the same problem. If the router is new can you get it replaced? or if that is not possible can you borrow another router from someone.
It is also possible that although the router is new, it may have been on the shelf a long time and there could be firmware updates for it.
sorry I don't seem to be helping much
