System Preferences | Screen Saver - running slow

I have just purchased a new iMac 3.06 GHz and used the Migration Assistant.app to transfer my user settings and files/folders from my old iMac G5. I did not transfer any application using the Migration Assistant.app.

Problem: As soon as I go to Screen Saver page within System Preferences I get the spinning beach ball and System Preferences runs extremely slow or stops responding. Sometime I can get back to the main System Preferences page using Show All but even then I get the spinning beach ball.

Library | Screen Savers is empty

I have run Onyx and reset the PRAM

This is new machine and other than MS Office nothing has yet to be installed. Are there any settings which may have been transferred from iMac which may be causing problems?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.7), 3.06 GHz

I had the same issues. Upgraded from a 2007 MacBook (white) to a 13" MBP and migrated settings/files from Time Machine. System Preference hung up at Screen Saver options. I ran the manual iLife update above, and instantly everything works perfectly. All iPhoto events and libraries now show up in the Screen Saver options and no longer hangs up. Thanks for the help!

I was having the same problem after using the Migration Assistant for a 13 Black Macbook to a new 15 MacBook Pro, tried everything that I could without any luck. Found this topic in discussions and tried the Fix that posted. Everything is now working. Even the Itunes cover screensaver loaded.

Thanks everyone.

I can't tell you how grateful I am to you and how disappointed I am in Apple's support. I spoke with two entry level people and a "Product Specialist." The first told me to reinstall the system, which I did, to no avail. Then I googled, found this discussion and saw that there was some hope with the iLife support 9.0.3. I was still a little dubious and called Apple again. Upon my insistence they "escalated" me to a "Product Specialist."

He told me I had to reinstall the system again, this time without saving settings. He knew nothing about the screen saver preference problem. When I told him about the discussion here, he just said "We don't read that." It seems to me that they must be wasting a lot of their time and users' time with many calls on the subject. It would behoove Apple to read these discussions and learn. And even HELP. There certainly should have been a software update for this particular issue. Thank you again. I am relieved but no thanks to Apple.
