yes, same for me. It works from Chinese to English, but not from English to Chinese. just get gibberish. Has happened recently-- I was using it a few weeks ago.
At least if other people have this problem, it is not some strange font incompatibility issue on my machine.
Also, as far as I have noticed, other languages than chinese work.
The Sysran Translation Widget has stopped working for all the "2 byte" languages after I did the Safari 4 and Java updates.
Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian etc all turn to Mojibake now.
Yes, they messed up the asian fonts (upgraded to mojibake), the cretins, in the honorable tradition of Yahoo, Hotmail, netscape, blablabla. Anything "enhanced" or upgraded "all-new" is usually bad news. asian fonts will work, not work, work, not work, in any popular software year in, year out, and never tested properly depending who is employed at the time.
Thanks for a link to another translator tool; I'll need something on my dashboard to replace/augment the Systran tool. The problem extends to ANY language with accents, as I discovered earlier when testing a French phrase.
BTW, if you go directly to
http://www.systransoft.com/, Systranet has the translator tool on their splash page and it is working without a hitch. When you ask it to translate, you are auto-directed to the translation on a fresh page, along with an invitation to "register for free and get access to new features".
