OS 3.0 bluetooth question

I cant believe they did not include the ability to use the next/previous track buttons on bluetooth headphones in this update. I have a third party bluetooth dongle that I used to use with my Touch and that supports all the buttons on my Nokia BH-604 headphones. This was a big dissapointment.

I guess they're crippling the bluetooth on the ipod on purpose because they don't want it to be seen as too attractive compared to their iphone offering...

The only reason I downloaded the 3.0 software upgrade was to use my jawbone bluetooth headset for skype on my ipod touch. As I understand now that is not possible as this is not supported by the ipod touch? Is there really no way? Very disappointing and can I get my money back please?

Don't think this is a iphone vs ipod touch issue as I believe the headset buttons dont work on the iphone either.

Geez, what a let down!
What doesn't really make sense to me is if they were doing this so people wouldn't use VOIP then why didn't they also cripple microphone on the wired headsets. I can Skype fine using Apples earphones that have the mic - I was just hoping to go wireless-free and still use Skype.
Hopefully some kind of update or crack or whatever will fix this down the road.

I updated to OS 3.0 last night. I have a single Bluetooth Sony MBS-100 speaker and I have managed to make the iPod connect but there is no volume control! This is really disappointing as it's stuck on max—the speaker itself has no volume control.

There has to be a software upgrade for this, I could control the volume on my old Palm TX to this speaker but I sold the Palm when I got the iPod touch!

I'm waiting for the $10 "update" that unlocks the next level of bluetooth support... then the next $10 update that unlocks the level after that.

Where is the section in the OS that gives you Bluetooth-related settings? I looked in the General section of the Settings, but no go...

It is in the General section in settings below 'Network'. But this will only show up on the 2nd Gen iPod Touch as the first gen did not have the bluetooth/Nike chip.

I'd love to know, because my first answer to the WHY NOT? question agrees with thehabamas.

the same problem with 3.0 bluetooth, I tried using 3 bluetooth devices phone, headset, ps3 just to test if it is searchable but no luck with those 3 -

head over to the iPhone forum... same problems with the iPhone and bluetooth.. this is just bad/non-existent testing, not crippling... don't know which is worse.

oh, and add audio and video out of sync to the list of problems with bluetooth headsets..

I think what's worse is we forked over our cash for an update more broken than Vista. Surely they could have paid for some QA.

I can't find the documentation to say either way. I just seems very strange to have Apple put the Voice Memos application on the first screen of iPod Touch 2nd Gen without a way for it to ever work.

I have seen other posts saying that it only works with Apple Bluetooth headsets...

Can anyone clarify?

I tried it with the Plantronics Explorer 222 with zero connection... will try my headset tonight.
