I have the same problem after updating to 3.0. And I have tried the usual; quitting iTunes, restarting the computer, etc. Nothing is working.
The funny thing is that I can log in to the iTunes store when the phone is not plugged in. So, the error is clearly related to the iPhone and the update, not the actual iTunes store itself.
Here we go again same as last year at the same time. I should learn my lesson, but I dont. I now have the same issue! Please post directions as to the cause and a solution to the issue. I tried the DNS flush in the older threads!
I am getting the same problem right now. I too can connect to the itunes store when the phone is not connected. I was in the middle of doing the update when I got the error message. My phone is now unusable and tells me to connect to iTunes. Yeah, no luck.
What doesn't make sense is that I have my own iPhone and another for my Dad. My update worked just fine. When I went to update his I got the error message.
From reading posts from last year, it appears that this has to do with a server overload? So the options are to just keep trying and hope you get through sooner or later. Anyone else know any information?
Same thing is happening to me. I downloaded and installed the update, now my phone is also unusable, and when it tries to connect to itunes, i get a -9807 error message.
I'm having the same problem! I'm plugging in my iTouch, and it works fine, except when I try to install the new iPhone 3.0 update for iTouch, and an error message pops up:
"We could not complete your iTunes store request. An unknown error has occurred (-4). There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later."
i just got the same problem, all i did was unplug it from the computer, and restart the iphone...
somehow it fix the problem, and it works fine now... besides the itune store still doesnt work...
I was having the same issues. I finally just got a direct link to the appdb server for downloading the firmware and synced with the alt/option + click upgrade button method, after nabbing the latest firmware file from there. Works fine.
Its apple's servers not responding. Error (-4) means that the server is having trouble handling all of the requests to it. It'll clear up once most people get 3.0 downloaded and the load lessens.
Possible solution: If you are getting an error message from itunes (-9807 was mine) make sure that you turn off Little Snitch or any other network filters. As soon as I did that my iphone got authorized immediately
Thanks for all the suggestions. I got the -9807 error a few days ago, I think after I downloaded ITunes 8.2. I can usually (but not always) access the ITunes Store, but I cannot purchase music at all. I connnected my IPhone and installed 3.0 on my IPhone and it wouldn't recognize ITunes and ITunes wouldn't allow my phone to sync or even activate. I tried reinstalling ITunes, restarting the computer, checking Keychain Access, etc. and now I can't even sign into ITunes from my computer. It opens, plays my library, but does not allow me to buy anything, sync my phone, or sign in.
I can sign in on the other computer.
Haven't tried turning off a network filter because I don't know if I have one or what it may be called. Is there one automatically found in Macs that is common other than Little Snitch?
My way out was to connect the phone to another Mac (OS 10.5--mine's a 10.4.11) and my phone at least is now updated and works fine. I just don't know how to fix the ability of my phone to connect to my computer.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
D
